Argumentative essay on Same Sex marriage
Marriage has been a part of life since before the medieval times. For two people who love each other and plan on spending the rest of their lives together, the natural instinct is to make it legal and get married. This being said same sex marriage has been widely discussed and debated on if it should be legalized or not. It is discriminating not to allow two people who want to get married just because they are homosexual. Legalizing same sex marriage would recognize the American dream of equal rights for all. Marriage brings legal rights that protect a couple that if not married, they should not have. On the other hand, some argue that homosexual marriage may cause disorder to raise a child and disrupt the natural biological procreation of mankind.
Marriage is a commitment that two people make to each other in which they share their lives and become like one. When the decision is made to be married, neither race nor religion is questioned. However, your sexual orientation is. Imagine the hardships that a homosexual must overcome throughout their entire life. Growing up feeling different than the majority of their peers because they feel attracted to the same sex is difficult. The feeling of inequality is already present because at a young age and throughout life, the feeling of being different and not accepted as you are being overbearing. Once open about their sexuality, not being able to have the same rights as their neighbors, co-workers, family to get married to someone they love and cherish is unjustifiable. It is everyone’s desire to share their best and worst moments in life with those they love. The issue of a person’s sexual orientation should not be an issue. All men are created equal, so the right to marry should also be the same (Brumbaugh, 345).
When married, certain legal benefits are available. Not allowing same sex marriage denies a couple to these certain benefits. The case in Florida is a perfect example of such benefits that are denied. A lesbian couple, of 18 years, was on vacation when one of the women collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. The other was denied access to visit her dying partner in the hospital because she was not acknowledged like a family member. If they were able to marry, this would not have been the case. Legalizing same sex marriage would allow each couple to be on the same health plan as well as claim rights to belongings and inheritance. If married heterosexual couples have these rights, so should homosexual couples (Brumbaugh, 345).
In opposition, it is argued that allowing same sex marriages would change the nature of parenthood. Marriage is seen not only as a commitment of two people, but also as a form of procreation. It is a known fact that in order to procreate, both a man and woman are needed. It is disputed that by allowing same sex couples to marry would also allow …

Sep 23, 2012 01:18
The same sex marriage has been widely debated in many countries for a long time. It is an important issue because it concerns basic moral and human rights. Nowadays, many gay couples have come out and expressed their sexuality choices. Although many people are against the legalization of same sex marriage, the same sex marriage should be legalized because it is their civil rights which is a separate institution with religious, it encoutages strong family value and leads to the increasing number of child adoption, and the same sex marriage also brings a lot of financial benefits.
Many people believe that the same sex marriage should not be legalized because it goes against the moral and the definition of marriage. According to MarketWatch magazine (2008), a lot of people believe that same sex marriages destroy family values and the sanctity of tradition. Moreover, the same sex marriage goes against many religious beliefs such as Catholicism and Islam. However, civil and religious marriages are two separate institutions.Joe Solmoneses, the president of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, claims that marriage is not only a significant religious meaning but it is also a legal contract. Many couples would not require any religious leaders to perform their marriages. So the frames of the religious and law were seperated.
While a lot of people strongly believe that children need a mother and a father. According to the National Institutes of Health (2009), girls who are raised apart from their father are reportedly at higher risk for early sexual activities. Sames sex households are not appropriate for raising children. On the other hand, Dr.Peggy Drexler, author of ‘Our Father, Ourselves, Daughters and the Changing American Family’,claims that from her studies children raising in the same sex households felt more open-minded and empathetic than other children. According to the research, the quality of a family’s relationship is more important than the particular structure of families. Moreover, research studies from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation also shows that children raised by gay parents do just as well as children raised by straight couples.
Another reason why same sex marriages should be legalized is financial benefits, Even though some peoplr fell uncomfortable to have their tax used to support something the fing wrong, they think legalizing gay marriage might cost toomuch tax money. However, same sex couples also pay tax as everybody, so they have tha right to receive the same benefit with others. Moreover, the same sex marriage will gain a lot of financial benefits through marriage licenses, higher income taxes and decrease in cost for state benefit programs. Joe Solmonese argues that legalized gay marriage would reduce tax used on public assistance programs.
Treating same-sex couples as families under law could even save
taxpayers money because marriage would require them to assume legal
responsibility for their joint living expenses and reduce their
dependence on public assistance programs such as Medicaid, Temporary
Assistance to Needy Families, Supplemental Security Income disability
payments and food stamps.
(‘Answer to Questions About Marriage Equality”,www.hrc.org,2009’)
Therefore, the same financial benefits that apply to man-woman marriages apply to same-sex marriages. The Christian Science Monitor support that gay marriage would improve the federal budget’s bottom line
In conclusion, the same sex marriage should be legalized. It is human civil rights, it is encourage families value and lead to a lot of financial profits to sate and local. Two people of the same sex who love each other should allowed to publicly celebrate their commitment and receive the same benefits of marriage as opposite sex couples. All lovers should be granted the final gift of marriage, because marriage is an inalienable right of humans. Joe Solmonese confirm that one day in the near future, people will look back on today’s same-sex couples and families and ask with raised eyebrows, “Why wouldn’t two people, who have spent their lives committed to one another, be granted the same human rights that most others take for granted?”. Marriage can provide families with true equality, so please stand for the same sex marriages as marriage equality.
